PLEASE NOTE: This process is to get the permit and then the license. It is the entire process. The documents required for a permit are the same for the license. You will reuse what you brought to the DMV for the permit for the license a year later except that you will need a new notarized school attendance form. School attendance forms are only valid for 30 days.
To obtain a driver’s license in the state of Mississippi, a child between the ages of 15 and 18 must first complete an application form. You can click the below link to open it and print it from your browser. You must get the application signed by both parents and notarized. If only one parent is available, you must show why, (divorce document, death certificate, etc.)
You must bring with you two (2) proofs of residence as the parent. The first should be your valid driver’s license living in this state and for the second either a utility bill or mortgage, rental agreement, etc. will do. There is also a form you can complete and notarize. The link to open and print this form is below.
You will have to bring their social security card and birth certificate (real – not a copy) in addition to the above. You must also bring a school form showing they are in school of some sort. Homeschoolers should complete the below form and have it notarized. This form will have to be printed, completed and notarized anew when they go to get their actual license a year later.
Now once your child has their permit and has driven for a year on it. You may complete the form below to waive the driving test. You are taking on responsibility for their driving training and you must be confident in their ability to do so. You also have to bring EVERY document you brought the first time in addition to this form, except the school form which you have to reprint, complete and notarize again.
